How to check your credit score with an ITIN
Equifax lets you sign up with an ITIN; Experian and TransUnion don't. This guide shows how to get your free Equifax score in minutes, see all three bureaus from one Equifax account, and what to do when sign-up fails.

Three bureaus, three files
Equifax, Experian, and TransUnion each keep their own credit file on you, built from what your lenders report. The file exists whether or not a bureau has your ITIN — lenders can still pull it when you apply. What differs is how you can see it yourself.
| Bureau | Online with an ITIN | Without an SSN |
|---|---|---|
| Equifax | Yes — the sign-up form asks for “SSN or ITIN” | Free account, score, and report |
| Experian | No — an ITIN reads as an invalid SSN | Written request by mail |
| TransUnion | No — online access needs an SSN | Call 800-916-8800 |
Before you start
- Your ITIN, and your name and date of birth exactly as your lenders have them
- A US address — the online sign-up doesn't take foreign addresses
- A mobile number Equifax can text to verify you
- Some credit history. Members report Equifax can't verify thin files; about 6 months of reporting history is the usual minimum. Being an authorized user on an older card counts.
Get your free Equifax score
- 1
Create a myEquifax account
Open the myEquifax sign-up and enter your ITIN in the “SSN or ITIN” field, plus your name, date of birth, mobile number, and current US address.
- 2
Verify your identity
Equifax texts you a code or asks questions from your credit file, such as past addresses or accounts. Answer from what your lenders have on record.
- 3
Turn on Equifax Core Credit
From the dashboard, choose “Get my free credit score.” It's free, needs no card, and adds your VantageScore 3.0 and Equifax report.
- 4
Pull your free reports
A myEquifax account also includes six free Equifax credit reports a year, and lets you freeze your file, add a fraud alert, or dispute errors.
See all three bureaus from Equifax
Because Experian and TransUnion won't take your ITIN online, the shortcut is Equifax Complete Premier: a paid Equifax plan that shows your Equifax, Experian, and TransUnion scores and a combined three-bureau report in your myEquifax dashboard.
- 1
Wait for an offer
After you create the free account, watch your email. Equifax sometimes discounts the first month — members report offers as low as $1.
- 2
Subscribe to Complete Premier
The regular price is $19.95 a month. Equifax charges your card as soon as you sign up.
- 3
Download the three-bureau report
Save the report as a PDF and check every section — see the list below.
- 4
Cancel if you don't need monitoring
You can cancel any time, but Equifax doesn't refund partial months, so cancel before the next billing date.
Free reports by mail and phone
If you'd rather not pay, you can still get Experian and TransUnion reports directly. It's slower, and the report comes to your address on file.
- A copy of a government ID that shows your current address
- A copy of a recent utility bill, bank statement, or insurance statement
- Your full name with middle initial, date of birth, and addresses for the past 2 years
- Call 800-916-8800 and say you don't have an SSN
- They verify you and mail the report
- TransUnion also answers through its social media accounts
What to check in your report
- Your name, date of birth, and addresses are right — this is how bureaus match you without an SSN
- Every account is yours, and none are missing
- No late payments you don't recognize
- Balances and limits are current — they drive your utilization
- Every hard inquiry is an application you made
Disputes are free. File them with the bureau that shows the error; myEquifax handles Equifax disputes online.
When sign-up fails
| Problem | What to do |
|---|---|
| Equifax can't verify you, or asks you to contact them | Call 1-888-EQUIFAX (1-888-378-4329) and ask them to activate the account after verifying your ID. Members also report quick help through Equifax on X. |
| You don't have a US address | Online sign-up won't work. Call 1-888-EQUIFAX — they can still send you a copy of your report. |
| A card is missing from one bureau | Ask the issuer which bureaus it reports to and under which ID, then dispute with the bureau that's missing it. |
| Experian's online upload tool returns an error | Send the same documents by mail to the Experian address above. |
