When to pay your credit card

Card issuers usually report your balance to the bureaus on the statement closing date. Pay before that date and a lower balance shows up on your credit report.

Pay $600 by Nov 17, 2026 so about 10% of your limit reports on Nov 20, 2026. Then pay the statement balance by the due date, no earlier than Dec 11, 2026.

We suggest paying 3 days early so the payment posts before the statement closes.

Your bill must arrive at least 21 days before the due date. The exact due date is on your statement and stays the same each month.

Questions

Should I pay my credit card before the statement date?
If you want a low balance reported, yes: issuers usually report the statement balance. You still need to pay at least the minimum by the due date.
What is the difference between the statement date and the due date?
The statement date closes the billing cycle and sets your statement balance. The due date, at least 21 days later, is when your payment is due.
Does paying early help my credit score?
It can lower the utilization that gets reported, which scoring models reward. Paying late, after the due date, is what hurts.
